What does ChatGPT say about your business?

More and more people ask an AI assistant for a recommendation instead of working through ten blue links. That assistant names one or two businesses. The question is whether yours is one of them, and right now it cannot even know that about most companies.

What is changing

Searching no longer works the way it did

Before

“roofer Rotterdam”

Ten results. The customer opens five, compares them and picks. All you had to do was be on that list.

Now

“My flat roof is leaking and I am in north Rotterdam. Which roofer has good reviews, can come this week and gives a guarantee?”

One answer. Two names. There is no list to be on any more, there is only the answer. Anyone not in it does not exist for that customer.

Why SEO alone is not enough

An AI does not read your site the way Google does

First things first: ranking well in Google still matters and I build for it just as hard. This is additional, it replaces nothing.

But Google looks at keywords, links and speed. A language model looks at something else: facts it can lift. It cannot see your design. It reads text and structure. If your prices, service area and opening hours are nowhere in a form it can read, it has nothing to say about you, however good the site looks.

I checked thirty random business sites from my own list. Four had an llms.txt. Three had machine-readable FAQ markup. The rest, well over 85 percent, are currently unreadable to an AI assistant.

How I do it

Three things, and they are standard in every site

1

Facts in machine language

Who you are, what you do, which towns you serve, what it costs and when you are open, recorded in an invisible layer in the code that AI scrapers can read in one pass. No marketing language, just facts.

2

An llms.txt on your domain

A separate file written specifically for AI crawlers that sums up your business in plain sentences. I also set out explicitly which crawlers are allowed to read it, because that is where this usually goes wrong in practice.

3

Answers instead of copy

People no longer type loose keywords, they ask whole questions. So your site carries the questions customers actually ask on the phone, with the answer in the first sentence and the number in it. A paragraph that saves the figure until the end cannot be quoted.

Honestly

What I am not going to promise

You will come across agencies promising you will become the number 1 recommendation in ChatGPT. Nobody can deliver that. There is no ranking for sale and the answer differs per question, per person and per day.

What I do promise is this: your business will be in a form an AI can read, understand and quote correctly, with the right prices and the right service area. That is verifiable, it is true, and it is more than almost all of your competitors have right now.

Frequently asked

Questions about AI Search

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No, and be careful with anyone who promises it. There is no position for sale and the answer differs per question and per user. What I do is put your details, services and answers into a form an AI can read and quote. Most sites simply are not, and that is the whole difference.

Does this cost extra?

No. It is included as standard in every site I build, at no extra cost. A site delivered in 2026 should simply have this. Only if you want me to keep writing new content and optimising over time does that become a separate arrangement.

Does this replace Google and SEO?

No, it is additional. Google is still where most people search and I build for that just as carefully. The point is that some of your customers now ask somewhere else, and right now you are not there.

Does this work on my existing site?

Usually yes. Structured data, an llms.txt and a proper questions page can go on almost any site. On page-builder sites it is sometimes harder because the code is messy, but you will hear that from me before you pay anything.

Curious what an AI says about you now?

Send your URL. You get back a 90 second video showing what is and is not readable right now, and what that costs you.
